Birthing Sticks:
Birthing Stick
Discover the comfort of this traditional labour aid.
Each birthing stick is hand carved with decorative details at the top and bottom of the staff. The central area is satin smooth for a comfortable grip. Use the staff to lean or sway on during labour, to support yourself in a squatting position, or to help balance yourself on a birth ball. When you are finished with it, it remains a one-of-a-kind decorative walking stick. As it is a handcrafted piece of art, no two are alike. Craftsman's choice: $50 Custom order: $70 See order form below for details. |
Here is one mom's story about using a birthing stick:
"Using a birthing stick was invaluable for me during early active labor! I stood in a half-bent position, pulling on the stick and rocking my hips back and forth. This was an instinctive motion I did simply because it felt good. My midwife was watching me and at times feeling the baby's position, and she remarked that the baby was probably turning into the right position as I was doing this. He was facing a little bit posterior at first, and I am sure that using the stick in harmony with what my body was telling me helped move him into the optimal birthing position! Besides that, I mainly loved the birthing stick because of how fun and easy it made the contractions. When I was ready with my stick, the contractions didn't hurt. A couple times a contraction caught me by surprise and I wasn't in position with my stick, and it HURT! So I continued to use the stick until labor got really intense and I decided to get into the pool. If I were to be preparing again for labor, a birthing stick would be one of the main few things that are must-haves for me!"
